THE
CRUCIFIED
CHALLENGE
"Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me."
Luke 9:23
Forty days of dying to yourself. Not improving yourself — dying. The cross is not a self-help strategy. It is the end of the man who keeps finding himself in the same place.
Most of us have tried to change and ended up right back where we started. That's because we were renovating a man who needed to be crucified.
The Core Truth
Why Change Never Sticks
Every man reading this has tried to change. We set the alarm earlier. Downloaded the app. Made the resolution. Six weeks later — sometimes six days later — we found ourselves right back in the same place.
Here is why: we were trying to improve a man who needed to be crucified.
Improvement is addition. The cross is subtraction. You cannot add discipline, routine, and good habits onto a foundation of flesh and expect it to hold. The old man has to go.
The Pattern We're Catching
We have learned to reach for comfort the moment life gets hard or the day gets long. It starts small — the phone in the morning, the TV at night, the scroll instead of the prayer.
The fox is not the big sin. The fox is the small comfort that becomes a pattern that becomes a prison that we call a personality.
What This Is Not
- — A productivity system
- — A morning routine
- — A self-improvement program
- — A habit stack
What This Is
40 days of choosing the cross over the couch. Every morning. Every midday. Every night.
A daily decision to let the old patterns die and to actively take up what actually matters: God, family, health, mission, mental clarity.
The Anthem — Say This Today
The Declaration
I have tried to change.
I have tried and found myself in the same place — same patterns, same drift, same quiet compromise — more times than I want to admit.
That is not a discipline problem. That is a death problem.
I have been trying to improve a man who needs to be put to death. I have been renovating when what was required was a cross.
"Deny yourself. Take up your cross. Daily."
Not once. Not when it gets serious enough. Not when I feel ready. Daily.
What goes on the cross:
The comfort. The scroll. The passive evenings. The numbing. The morning handed to everything except God.
What gets taken up:
My God. My wife. My kids. My body. My mission. My mind — processed, not suppressed.
Not tomorrow. Not when I feel ready.
TODAY. 40 days. Luke 9:23.
I am taking up my cross. And I am not putting it down.
Seven Pillars
What You're Crucifying For
These are not goals. They are what's on the other side of the cross.
Foundation
God
First in the morning. Last at night. Not a checklist — an orientation. The man who gives God the first and last of his day moves differently through everything else.
Fox: Treating God like a supplement instead of the source.
Stewardship
Sleep
Set a hard time and honor it. Staying up for one more episode is borrowing against tomorrow's capacity to lead. A man who protects his sleep protects every other pillar by default.
Fox: Late nights disguised as "me time" — they're avoidance time.
Covenant
Marriage
Your wife is not asking for more hours. She's asking for the version of you that hasn't checked out. Initiate. Pursue. Be present the way you were before you got comfortable.
Fox: Coasting on proximity and calling it a good marriage.
Legacy
Kids
Your kids are not watching your hustle. They're watching what you reach for when you're tired. They're learning right now what a man does at the end of a hard day.
Fox: Physically present, mentally elsewhere — and thinking it counts.
Stewardship
Health
Move the body you were given. Feed it with intention. The body is the instrument — you cannot do the work you're called to with a neglected instrument.
Fox: "I deserve this" as ongoing justification for self-neglect.
Mission
Work
One act of creation before one act of consumption — every single day. The mission does not move itself. You don't need more time; you need more intention.
Fox: Consuming content and calling it preparation for the work.
Integrity
Mental Health
What is sitting in your chest right now? Name it. Write it. Bring it to God. Don't reach for Netflix when anxiety or unresolved tension is what actually needs attention.
Fox: The remote as emotional sedative. The scroll as avoidance.

Win the day.
Then win it again tomorrow.
For 40 days. Not because 40 days fixes everything — but because 40 days proves to you that you can.
What's Next
Go Deeper
The challenge is the starting line. The patterns you're catching over 40 days — those are the foxes. And catching them is step one. Understanding why they keep coming back is where the real work happens.
If you get to Day 14 and realize the fox you're catching is bigger than a habit — if you can see the pattern clearly but can't seem to break it on your own — that's what one-on-one coaching is for.
